Abstract. The studies were carried out in 2001–2017 to determine the economic efficiency of cultivating fiber flax against a natural background without mineral fertilizers application and with their introduction at the dose of N10P22K80 after various forecrops with white mustard as an intercrop used for green manure. The experiments were conducted on medium and slightly acid sod-podzolic light and medium loamy soils of the Tver region. Economic efficiency was calculated based on the difference in the yield of flax seeds and flax fiber in the best versions of the experiments and control. In each experiment, we used different controls. In the first experiment, it was winter rye without intercrops and fertilizers for fiber flax; in the second experiment it was vetch and oat mixture and white mustard without intercrops; in the third experiment, it was barley without intercrops and fertilizers for fiber flax. We took into account the costs of additional flax products and the costs of their cultivation. The profit from cultivation of flax without mineral fertilizers after winter rye with intermediate stubble sowing of white mustard for green fertilizer amounted to 2,493 RUB/ha; the recoupment of additional costs was 2.2 rubles. The profit from fiber flax cultivation after vetch and oat mix and white mustard for feed with intermediate sowing of white mustard for green fertilizer was 1,674 and 1,650 RUB/ha, respectively; the recoupment of additional costs was 1.7 RUB/RUB. An additional profit of 3,350 RUB/ha was noted when cultivating flax without mineral fertilizers after white mustard for feed with intermediate postcut sowing of white mustard for green fertilizer. The recoupment of flax products amounted to 2.0 rubles per 1 ruble of additional costs.
