Use of Vitazar preparation in mink diet

Abstract. The purpose of the research was to study the effect of Vitazar wheat germ oil on the productivity of female minks as well as on the size and quality of the skins of young male minks. The object of the study was the Standard Black minks bred in Scandinavia and minks of the brown wild type. To assess the effectiveness of the preparation, we conducted some experiments. In each experiment, the animals were divided into four groups. The first group of animals (control) received only a feed mixture. In three other experimental groups, Vitazar was added to the main diet of animals three times a week in different doses. The animals were selected by the group-analogue method by origin, live weight, and age. The optimal dose of the preparation in the diet of females from the main herd was 3.3 mL/animal per day. When using the optimal dose, the offspring of the main female increased by 0.5 animals – up to 7.3 animals. Application of Vitazar preparation at the dose of 5.0 mL/animal per day did not have a negative effect on the internal organs of animals and increased the concentration of total protein in the blood by 7.51 g/L. Inclusion of the preparation in the diet of young male minks at the dose of 3.0 mL/animal per day significantly increased their live weight in comparison with the control by 127 g; the body weight of the mink at slaughter increased by 191 g; the area of the skin increased by 6 cm2. The number of especially large skins of A and B categories increased by 16%; the share of defect-free skins increased by 8%; the quality of skin products increased by 4.0%.
