Abstract. V.R. Williams Federal Scientific Center of Fodder Production and Agroecology was established for breakthrough fundamental, priority applied research and practical developments on strategically important areas for the country. The development program of the Center is focused on priorities and challenges for society, the state and science, which are included in the Strategy of scientific and technological development of our country in the nearest (10–15 years) and long-term outlook (including after 2030). Priority tasks of the Center include the development of fundamental and applied research in the following directions: breeding and seed production of forage crops, microbiology, genetics, bioengineering; field and meadow fodder production, agrolandscape and ecological zoning, methodology and principles of technology development for construction and cultivation of highly productive agroecosystems, with a view of rational nature management, biologization and ecologization of agriculture; preservation, storage and use of feed, ensuring their quality and environmental safety. The Center plans to focus on interdisciplinary comprehensive research, study of biological, ecological, geographical regularities, development of effective environmentally safe energy-saving technologies of production, harvesting, storage and use of feed, rational environmental management, ecology and environmental protection in agriculture, provision of the conservation of soil fertility, stability and productive longevity of agricultural lands and agrolandscapes, and coordination of these studies in Russia.
