Abstract. Different soybean varieties were studied against following backgrounds: without fertilization (control), seed inoculation with soybean nitragin, nitrogen fertilizer without seed inoculation. It was determined the duration of the vegetative period, plant height, weight of air-dry matter, the number and weight of active tubercles on roots, structure elements of plant productivity and the yield. Soybean ‘Belgorodskaya 8’ had a number of advantages for all studied parameters of productivity; it was high, possessed higher weight and nitrogen-fixing capacity, forming more legumes and seeds and higher yield. According to the results of the test, Bara variety was less productive. The highest positive effect was against the background with seed inoculation by nitragin KM before sowing: the plants were higher on average by 2.6–7.0 cm, the number of active tubercles and their weight – by 8.5 pieces and 0.08 g, the number of legumes and seeds per plant – by 2.2 and 2.5 pieces, respectively. Seed inoculation with soybean nitragin before sowing contributed to the yield increase for all studies varieties within the limits of 2.43–3.07 t/ha with the average increase of 0.23 t/ha (plus 9.1% to the control). Belgorodskaya 8 variety was more responsive to the seed inoculation. Its yield increased by 0.32 t/ha, or 11.6%. Bara variety was less responsive, the increase was 0.13 t/ha, or 5.7%. Mineral nitrogen fertilizer, applied in the form of ammonium nitrate in the dose of 0.2 t/ha before budding, was less effective in comparison with the seed treatment by nitragin; the yield increased by 70 kg/ha, or 2.8%, only. The greatest gain was noted for Belgorodskaya 8 variety – by 0.17 t/ha, or 6.2%. The yield of Bara variety decreased against the same background by 70 kg/ha, or 3.1%.
