Abstract. Experimental studies of the engines “4Ch 11.0/12.5 (D-240)” were performed in the winter operation laboratory of Novosibirsk State Agrarian University. The aim of the investigation was to study the efficiency of a dynamic warming-up mode in comparison with a static mode. The research program included a comparative analysis of the values of the hourly fuel consumption, wear of the sleeves and piston rings during engine self-heating in different modes. Self-heating means periodical cycles, which are ensured with the help of engine warm-up automat (EWA). It can be realized in the static or dynamic mode. Self-heating in the static mode is a cycle “start – acceleration – heating – run-out – cooling-down”, in the dynamic mode it is a cycle consisting of a series of periodically repeating cycles. The dynamic mode presupposes creation of load per engine, which works in the heating mode, by means of inertia of rotating mass. The simplest way to create load, which can be controlled automatically, is a work in the dynamic mode (acceleration – run-out). The average duration of coolant warming-up from +5 C to +50 С in the static mode is 288 seconds with absolute fuel consumption of 0.550 kg. In the dynamic mode its duration increases to 372 seconds, and fuel consumption decreases to 0.361 kg. When recalculated per hour, the static mode consumes 6.9 kg/h of fuel, the dynamic mode – 3.5 kg/h of fuel. At the same time, the engine running time in the total time balance of the intershift period in the static mode was 3.5%, and in the dynamic mode it was 4.5%. The largest average wear of the cylinder-piston group per one start-up takes place at the start – heating of the engine, which operates in the static mode, and it is in the range of 0.064–0.087 micrometers. Wherein, engine warming-up in the dynamic mode accompanies with the abrasion reduction from 7 to 10% for sleeves, from 15 to 85% for rings.

Keywords: start – warming-up; static mode; dynamic mode; cylinder and piston group; abrasion; fuel consumption; heating time.
