Abstract. In 2011–2017 under conditions of the northern regions of the Middle Volga region, the studies were carried out to determine the yield, adaptive capacity, ecological stability and breeding value of five varieties of soft winter wheat, originated in Tatar Research Agricultural Institute: Kazanskaya 560, Nadezhda, Darina, Universiada, Sultan. The soil was gray forest, the forecrop was bare fallow. Mineral fertilizers (azophoska at sowing, ammonium nitrate in spring top dressing) were applied in the doses calculated for the planned yield of 6.0 t/ha. The plot area was 25 m2. The distribution was randomized, the replication was four-fold. The experiment included two factors: factor A (varieties) and factor B (years of the research). Parameters of general and specific adaptive ability (GSA and SAА), relative stability (Sg,%), breeding value of genotypes (BVG) on grounds of the yield were calculated according to the method proposed by A.V. Kilchevsky and L.V. Khotyleva. New varieties exceeded the standard variety ‘Kazanskaya 560’ by 22.6–46.7% on the grounds of the yield. The genotype and environmental conditions significantly influenced the productivity; the share of the influence of these factors was 56.14 and 26.02%, respectively. The variance of genotypes (MS = 3.358) prevailed over the variance of the “genotype-environment” interaction (MS = 0.017). Universiada variety surpassed the standard in the crop yield (+46.70%), the general adaptive ability (GAA = 0.919), and the breeding value of the genotype (BVG = 4.26). According to the specific adaptive ability, the best values were obtained from varieties Kazanskaya 560 (SАА = 0.393) и Sultan (SАА = 0.467). To obtain high and stable grain yields it is recommended to widely use winter wheat varieties, originated in Tatar Research Agricultural Institute (Kazanskaya 560, Nadezhda, Darina,Universiada), and use them as source material in breeding work on adaptivity.
