Abstract. Various prooxidants (inhibitors of antioxidant enzymes, photosensitizers, and substances damaging the photosynthetic apparatus) were studied. Such compounds are capable of systemically inducing plant resistance. They stimulate the formation of reactive oxygen species, causing an oxidative explosion. To optimize a research the best methods and timing of preparation application should be selected. Cucumber plants susceptible to scab were treated with spraying, addition substances to the soil or application to the leaves with droplets. For possible enhancement of the action of preparations, wetting agents (Tween) were used. The studies were carried out in a greenhouse. The authors registered the development of the disease, determined the proportion of compatible spots, on which the protective effect of drugs was assessed. When spraying, the proportion of compatible spots decreased from 50% in the control to 1% in the treatment with DDC and aminotriazole, and to 32% when treated with paraquat. Thus, the prooxidants protected plants from the disease. Some of them, in particular, paraquat, possessed their own phytotoxicity, apparently associated with an oxidative explosion in tissues. Visible lesions, however, were not a prerequisite for action, since DDC (0.001 mM) and AT (0.01 and 0.1 mM) reduced the proportion of symptoms of a compatible type, but did not damage the leaves. Being added to the soil, aminotriazole and mercaptopyridine reduced the number of compatible spots, but DDC was ineffective. Perhaps, the latter was not absorbed by the roots. Different additives, for example, promoting better adhesion of droplets to the surface, could strengthen the influence of the treatment. Wetting agents, often used in formulations, were themselves able to reduce the development of the disease (at least a third reducing the number of compatible spots). Adding them to the working solution, one can achieve greater effectiveness of the main drug. For developing possible formulations of pesticides it is necessary not only to know the mechanism of their action, and to consider possible ways of using.
