Abstract. The purpose of the research was to analyze the fertility indicators of arable soils in the Kursk region for 2014–2018. The average weighted content of organic matter for the period of the studies was quite stable and amounted to 4.7%, which corresponds to class III or average provision. The current level of organic fertilizers application taking into account the ploughing of crop and root residues and green manure embedding is still insufficient to maintain a normal balance of humus in the soil. A slight variation in the provision of arable soil with mobile phosphorus was due to its negative balance in the agriculture of the Kursk region. At the same time, the weighted average content of this mineral element is 132 mg/kg of soil, which, according to the existing classification, corresponds to an increased provision and is close to the optimal level. The content of mobile potassium in the arable soils of the region has not changed significantly in recent years. However, in order to stabilize the potassium status of chernozem and grey forest soils, in the future, it is necessary to increase the input of this element in the agrocenosis up to a level that provides a balance intensity of at least 80%. An increase in the areas of acidic arable soil was noted in the direction from the south to the north. In general, their share was 70.5% or 1,305,000 hectares of the arable land under study. The balance of the main nutrients in the field of agriculture in 2014–2018 remained negative. Due to the total increase of the application of mineral and organic fertilizers, crop residues and straw, the input of nutrients per 1 hectare increased from 110 kg of active NPK substances in 2014 to 182.6 kg of active NPK substances in 2018. Compensation for their yield in this period increased, respectively, from 53 to 71%.
