Abstract. The use of biological preparations of nitrogen-fixing bacteria is an environmentally friendly alternative to mineral and organic fertilizers. We evaluated the effect of diazotrophic presowing inoculation on the biological and nutritional value of barley grain. The object of the study was the seeds of spring barley of Simon variety. The work was conducted in 2018–2019 in the southeast of Western Siberia. Before sowing, the seeds were inoculated with a peat form of Rizoagrin-B biological product in the amount of 600 g per hectare rate (4.5 million germinating seeds per 1 ha). The control was not treated. The experiment was repeated three times. The soil in the plot was medium-thick heavy loamy podzolized chernozem. Meteorological conditions during the vegetation period were favourable for the growth and development of barley plants. Compared with the control, the protein content in the inoculated grain increased by 1.9% (up to 13.70%); the amount of amino acids increased by 23.3% (up to 10.79 g/100 g). The content of proteinogenic amino acids, compared with the control, increased from 15.0% for glutamic acid to 77.4% for alanine. The content of all essential amino acids also increased. The use of 100 g of the whole grain of barley in the control covers from 6.00% (methionine) to 15.60% (threonine) of the daily human need for essential amino acids; in the experimental version, it covered from 8.67 to 21.60%, respectively. Barley grains in the control were characterized by low amino acid scores including the scores of 6 limiting amino acids except for tryptophan, the sum of phenylalanine and tyrosine. The content of all amino acids except lysine in the grain protein of the barley grown after seed presowing inoculation was higher than in the ideal protein.
