Abstract. The work was performed in 2018–2019 in the Belgorod region. The purpose was to identify hybrids and parent forms of maize with a high content of carotenoids in the grain. The study material was four Russian hybrids, three Maizadur hybrids, two Syngenta hybrids, one Monsanto hybrid, one Woodstock hybrid, Belkorn 250 MV standard, and four parent components of Dostoiny SV hybrid. The content of carotenoids in the grain was determined by the developed method in terms of lutein. In 2018, all the studied hybrids, except for GIS 1 and GIS 3, exceeded Belkorn 250 SV standard. The concentration of carotenoids in Russian hybrids Resursny SV (18.4 mg/kg) and Dostoiny SV (19.8 mg/kg) was higher than in the Maizadur hybrids by 35.9% and 40.4%, the Syngenta hybrids – by 8.7% and 15.2%, Monsanto hybrids – by 26.6% and 31.8%, and Woodstock hybrids – by 8.2% and 14.6%, respectively. On average over 2 years, Dostoiny SV was distinguished by the highest content of carotenoids in the grain and their yield per unit area (21.8 mg/kg and 169.4 g/ha, respectively). These indicators exceeded those of Belkorn 250 MV two times. Among the parent components, the highest concentration of carotenoids was registered in self-pollinated lines EM 10 zS (26.6 mg/kg) and SB 5-1 SV (29.7 mg/kg).
