Abstract. The study aimed to identify highly productive stud lines of the Kazakh white-headed cattle for the further improvement of the breed. The paper presents the results of studying the growth and development of young animals aged from 6 to 15 months of various stud lines bred at the Aysulu farm, the Republic of Kazakhstan. The herd was represented mainly by full-aged cows, the majority of which were the descendants of the stud lines Maylan 13851 (44.8%), Landysh 9879 (31.7%), and Kaktus 9879 (15.4%). Full-age cows exceeded the requirements for the breed standard in live weight and indicators of the elite class by an average of 21.5 kg and 25.0 kg, respectively. The highest coefficient of variability in milk yield (13.9%) was observed in cows of the Kaktus 7969 stud line. The highest elongation and breast index were noted in the descendants of the Maylan 13851; the highest overgrowth index was noted in the animals of the Salem 12747 lines. At the age of 6 months, the live weight of the young bulls of the Kaktus 7969 stud line was higher than that of their peers by 11.6–16.2 kg; at 8 months, it was higher by 9.8–12.2 kg. The young bulls of the Landysh 9879 stud line reached the highest value of this indicator at 12 months and 15 months; they exceeded the peers from other stud lines by 2.2–15.6 kg and 6.0–15.8 kg, respectively (P was less or equal 0.95). The heifers of the Kaktus 7969 stud line exceeded their peers in live weight at the age of 6 months by 3.2–6.8 kg; at 8 months, they exceeded them by 2.8–8.0 kg. At the age of 12 months a greater, in comparison with peers from other stud lines, the value of this indicator was noted in heifers of the Salem 12747 stud line; at 15 months, a greater indicator was registered in the Maylan 13851 line. These lines exceeded their peers by 3.2–11.2 kg and 0.6–7.8 kg, respectively.
