Enzymatic activity of grey forest soil with different tillage methods

Abstract. The purpose of the research was to study the effect of tillage methods on the enzymatic activity of grey forest slightly podzolized medium loamy soil. The research was conducted in 2017–2019 in the Vladimir region. The design of the stationary field experiment involved the study of the following tillage options: surface tillage to the depth of 6–8 cm; flat-cut tillage to the depth of 20–22 cm; ploughing to the depth of 20–22 cm. The maximum enzymatic pool in the experiment was formed in the layer of 0–10 cm and decreased with depth with all tillage methods. The highest catalase activity (2.0 mL of O2/min per 1 g of soil) was noted in the case of tillage to the depth of 6–8 cm. In the options with tillage to the depth of 20–22 cm, catalase activity was significantly lower, which was especially pronounced against the background of ploughing. A direct positive relationship was revealed between the number of microorganisms and catalase activity (r = 0.73–0.87). With annual subsurface tillage methods, the value of humus accumulation coefficients (Ch) was 0.65–0.69. The lowest Ch in the experiment was in the option with ploughing – 0.57. Against subsurface backgrounds, the average humus content in the 0–20 cm soil layer was 3.40%, which was significantly higher (LSD(05) = 0.21) than in the option with annual moldboard tillage. The most intense, judging by the invertase activity, carbohydrate metabolism in the 0–30 cm layer of the soil was noted against the background of surface tillage – 3.26 mg of glucose/1 g of soil for 40 hours. The intensity of mobilization processes of organic soil phosphates against different primary tillage backgrounds was almost the same. The annual surface tillage to the depth of 6–8 cm can be considered the most favourable for the formation of the pre-humus fraction and the activation of the biogenesis of humic substances.
