Abstract. The research aimed to study the effectiveness of filter sediment from a sugar factory in reducing the excess acidity of chernozems. The work was performed in the Ulyanovsk region in 2017–2020. The soil of the experimental site was leached heavy loamy chernozem with the following characteristics: humus content (according to Tyurin’s method) – 6.9%; mobile phosphorus and potassium contents (according to Chirikov’s method) – 95 mg/kg and 128 mg/kg, respectively; hydrolytic acidity – 6.65 mEq/100 g; pH(KCl) value – 5.22; degree of base saturation – 87.4%. Doses of CaCO3 were calculated based on hydrolytic and exchangeable acidity. The experimental design provided for the study of the following options: without ameliorant (control); CaCO3 at a dose of 6.1 t/ha; CaCO3 at a dose of 4.5 t/ha. The experiment was repeated four times. The ameliorant showed to be effective from the first year of use. When CaCO3 was applied at the dose of 6.1 t/ha, acidity increased from 5.5 pH units to 6.3 pH units; at the dose of 4.5 t/ha, it increased from 5.1 pH units to 6.2 pH units. The content of mobile phosphorus over the years of research in the option with the application of CaCO3 at the indicated doses increased by 12 mg/kg and 15 mg/kg, respectively. The research results indicated an increase in the yield of cultivated crops in the crop rotation. With the application of CaCO3 at the dose of 4.5 t/ha the yield of barley grain in 2017 increased by 0.5 t/ha; the yield of winter wheat in 2018 in both options with ameliorant increased by 0.3 t/ha; the yield of spring wheat in 2019 in both options with ameliorant increased by 0.5 t/ha; with the application of CaCO3 at the dose of 6.1 t/ha the yield of spring wheat in 2020 increased by 0.7 t/ha; with the introduction of CaCO3 at the dose of 4.5 t/ha it increased by 0.3 t/ha.
