Abstract. Research was carried out to assess the tolerance of rice to prolonged immersion in water and the ability to vigorously grow from an underwater layer to isolate the best samples and use them in the breeding of flood-resistant varieties. For research, 180 varieties and samples of rice harvested in 2021 were selected/ They were obtained in the laboratory of breeding and seed production of rice at the Agrarian Scientific Centre "Donskoy" from crossing domestic varieties with Asian donors of flood resistance genes. Laboratory studies were performed using several physiological methods: aerobic growth force assessment, anaerobic germination ability assessment, and PCR analysis. Evaluation of 180 rice samples according to the intensity of seedling growth under aerobic conditions showed on the 10th day a significant variation in the length of the sprout – from 2.4 to 7.4 cm and root – from 2.2 to 15.3 cm. The largest average length of the sprout and root marked at line 1191. Under anaerobic conditions of germination of rice seeds after 5 days, most of the studied varieties and lines (71%) were characterised by an average sprout length from 0.1 to 2.0 cm, only in 6% it reached 3.0-4.0 cm. Samples 1177, 3137, 2407, 1337, 1176, 766 were characterised by the minimum growth of the sprout stem (0.2-0.5 cm), samples 11542, 1176 and 1191 were characterised by the maximum (3.0-4.0 cm). The tallest were samples 1191 – 16.5 cm and 1542 – 16.3 cm, the shortest was 766 – 3.0 cm. During PCR analysis, homozygous samples carrying the Sub1A (5461, 5463), Snorkel 1 (1542), and Snorkel 2 (1041, 1191) genes were isolated. The source material of practical importance for the selection process has been created.
