Abstract. The research was aimed to isolate the source material of winter wheat for use in breeding programmes when creating non-lodging and highly productive varieties. The work was carried out in 2019-2021 in the Ryazan region. The material for the study was 119 samples of winter wheat, the standard was the Angelina variety. Most (68%) of the varieties are assigned to the short-growing group, medium-sized forms – 6.7%, semi-dwarf – 25.2%. A negative close relationship (r= -0.988) of plant height with resistance to lodging was revealed, which largely determined productivity (r=0.995). Lodging resistance was shown by samples of the semi-dwarf group (7.15±0.40 points); increased productivity – short-growing varieties (3.87±0.20 t/ha). According to the content of protein and gluten, varieties of the medium-sized group stood out (respectively 17.4±0.50% and 32.0±0.65%); by grain size – genotypes of the short-growing group (weight of 1000 grains 45.3±0.41 g). In general, increased productivity was observed in varieties Isztar (5.5 t/ha), Mironovskaya 63 (4.7 t/ha), Khortitsa (4.6 t/ha); the smallest plant height – STRG 806015 (85 cm), Khortitsa (85.3 cm), Lgovskaya 4 (89 cm), Isztar (89.3 cm), Donskaya Lira (90.7 cm), Mironovskaya 28 (92 cm), Skipetr (92 cm), Mironovskaya 63 (93.3 cm) and Pojema (93.7 cm). In terms of resistance to lodging, almost all varieties of short-growing forms stood out – 6.3-8.3 points; by grain size – Lgovskaya 4, Mironovskaya 27, Skipetr with a mass of 1000 grains 45.6-46.0 g.
