Summary. In the article these results on analysis of inheritance of the feature “number of grains per spike” in the first and the second generations of spring barley hybrids are considered. The experiment was launched in Department of seed breeding and seed growing of barley in All-Russian Research Institute of Grain Crops after I.G. Kalinenko (ARRIGC after I.G. Kalinenko, Zernograd) in 2007-2011. The hybrids F1 were sown by hand in the rows of 1,5 m of length (square of plot is 0,6 m2), F2 – with the plot seeder SKS-6-10 (in both variant the parent forms are standard). The harvesting was carried out by hand cutting the plants with sickles. The biometric analysis of plants was carried out in the laboratory by calculation of grains amount in each ear of hybrids and parental forms. The best variety samples of spring barley selected by ARRIGC after I.G. Kalinenko, such as Zernogradsky 1419, Leon, Zernogradsky 1380, Zernogradsky 1374, Zernogradsky 1229, Zernogradsky 1260, Tonus, were used as parent forms. In the result of direct and indirect hybridization of all parent forms these are cultivated 10 hybrids. As the result of their direct and indirect hybridization 10 hybrids were cultivated. The variety Leon showed maximum total combinative ability on the feature “number of grains per spike”. Therefore, this cultivar can be used in seed breeding on increased number of grains as a source of the studied feature. In the first generation the hybrids inherited this feature in different ways: from depression to over dominance. The majority of combinations (70%) have the largest number of grains per spike. A vivid example of over dominance is hybrid of Tonus × Leon (domination degree is 31,0). In the second generation parent forms differed in two pairs of genes that allowed combining them with the genes of other quantitative features during seed breeding process.
Keywords: barley, hybrid, parental form, inheritance, number of genes.
