Summary. Soybean is an important food and fodder crop. Slow rates of an increase in its sowing area in Russia and particularly in Altai Krai is due to the insufficient scientific support including breeding. The experiments were carried out on the base of field stationary of the laboratory of legumes and fodder crop breeding of Altai Research Institute of Agriculture under typical conditions of forest-steppe of Ob region of Altai Krai in 2011-2014. The soil is leached medium deep, medium humic, medium loamy black soil with moderate base exchange capacity and neutral soil reaction. The evaluation of 93 samples of soybeans from different groups of ripeness showed that early-season, early-maturing and middle-early varieties with growing period 90…120 days are of practical interest for grain production in Altai Krai. In extremely hot years (2012) middle-early varieties produce the highest grain yield. Early-maturing and early-season cultivars are more productive in temperate years (2013, 2014). As a result of the estimation the sources of economically valuable signs were selected in every group of ripeness. Among early-season samples it was Eldorado, SibNIISKh 6, SibNIIk 315, Dina. We selected cultivars L-2B, Ls-6/1, Otb. Belaya/1, L-PG 91/3, VN-237-08, Otb. 189 as well as varieties Omskaya 4 and Zolotistaya from the group of early-maturing samples. From the middle-early group we selected samples Soer 345, Grignon 59, Apollo, Kharkovskaya 56, Daksoy.
