STUDY OF SOURCE MATERIAL FOR SUNFLOWER BREEDING UNDER CONDITIONS OF KULUNDA STEPPE

Summary. In Altai Research Institute of Agriculture there were studied 5 samples of the 02 group of ripeness (early-season), 14 samples of the 03 group (early-maturing) and 18 samples of the 04 group (middle-early) to select new sources for development of self-pollinated lines of sunflower. Investigations were carried out on chestnut sabulous soil of Kulunda steppe of Altai Krai. The area of plot was 9.8 m2, there were three replications, the predecessor was bare fallow. The density of planting in the test was 40 000 plants per a hectare. The hybrid Kulundinsky 3 and variety SUR are the most perspective as source material of early-season samples in productivity and oil content in seeds. These cultivars provided the greatest output of oil – 0.68 and 0.56 t/ha, correspondingly. Varieties Kulundinsky 1 and Enisej were distinguished by large achenes, the former surpassed the latter in the productivity of oil seeds by 0.07 t/ha, and in the oil content by 2.5 %. From the group of early-maturing samples hybrids Triumf, S 207, Krasotka, Marvik, as well as varieties Kazachy and Kavkazets were the best. The productivity of these hybrids varied from 1.83 t/ha (Krasotka) to 2.08 t/ha (Triumf), which is higher than average productivity in the test by 0.17…0.42 t/ha. Hybrid Marvik was characterized by high oil content (48.1 %). Varieties Kazachy and Kavkazets insignificantly yielded to hybrids in productivity, but they surpassed the most of them in oil content in seeds. Middle early samples with long vegetative period can be included in breeding process provided their crossing with early-repining varieties and hybrids. Donors of high oil content were discovered in this group – variety Flagman (50.1 %) and hybrid Prestizh (49.1 %). Key words: sunflower, variety, hybrid, group of ripeness, yield, oil content.
