CHARACTERIZATION OF SAMPLES OF AEGILOPS L. SPECIES BY EFFECTIVE RESISTANCE TO DISEASES

Summary. A number of laboratory and field tests were carried out on the base of N.I. Vavilov Institute of Plant Genetic Resources in 2003-2015. The aim of the investigations was to study the resistance of Aegilops L. samples to leaf rust, Septoria blight and dark-brown leaf spot blotch. The material for the tests was 1527 samples of 23 Aegilops L. species from VIR World Collection. Samples, resistant to leaf rust, were identified in Ae. tauschii Coss., Ae. cylindrica Host, Ae. aucheri Boiss., Ae. longissima Schweinf. et Muschl., Ae. speltoides Tausch, Ae. umbellulata Zhuk., Ae. heldreichii (Boiss.) Holzm., Ae. uniaristata Vis., Ae. comosa Sm. in Sibth. et Sm., Ae. caudata L., Ae. biuncialis Viz., Ae. columnaris Zhuk., Ae. geniculata Roth and Ae. triuncialis L. Cultivars resistant to Septoria blight and dark-brown leaf spot blotch were registered in Ae. tauschii. Samples Kk-79, 249, 427, 428, 624, 729, 1959 and 3299 of Ae. tauschii and Kk-1214, 3058 of Ae. cylindrica have the same dominant gene encoding leaf rust resistance. The resistance of samples Kk-223, 816, 1461, 2306, 3287, 3292, 3312, 3325 of Ae. umbellulata, K-4585 of Ae. triuncialis was found to be controlled by gene Lr9. Samples Kk-4148, 4157, 4158, 4180, 4195, 4202, 4208, 4314 and 4315 (Ae. biuncialis); K-4225 (Ae. columnaris); K-4581 (Ae. triuncialis) and K-4358 (Ae. geniculata) were resistant both to population of Puccinia triticina Erikss. and individual clones, virulent to Lr9. This demonstrates the presence of other genes for the resistance. The monogenic encoding of the resistance to complex population of Stagonospora nodorum Berk. was found in Ae. tauschii samples Kk-285, 296, 1098, 1124, 1202, 1804 and 1954; the resistance genes of these samples were not identical. Samples K-1804 and K-3683 of Ae. tauschii have two non-identical seedling recessive genes for resistance to dark-brown leaf spot blotch.
