Summary. The juvenile resistance to chloride salinization among 269 barley samples from Dagestan was estimated using paper roll method under laboratory conditions. Sodium chloride solutions with osmotic pressure of 0.7 and 0.9 MPa were used as two salinization backgrounds. The degree of reduction of root average length in the salt solution was calculated relative to the control (the background without salinization). The examined samples were separated for three groups: resistant samples, medium resistant and sensitive ones. Nine local samples of barley, resistant to chloride salinization at 0.9 MPa were selected (K-13230, K-13236, K-13497, K-18465, K-21770, K-21775, K-21777, K-26295, K-26296); 233 samples were medium resistant and 27 samples were characterized by high sensitivity to salt stress. In 0.7 MPa salt solution 13 forms belonged to resistant group (K-11475, K-13497, K-13503, K-13505, K-15019, K-15047, K-15252, K-17428, K-21752, K-21773, K-21780, K-21818, K-23785); 229 samples were medium resistant and 27 samples were sensitive to salinization. A significant average correlation (r = 0.490) between salt resistance indices at two salinization levels was found. At the same time only one barley sample K-13497 demonstrated high resistance at the osmotic pressure 0.7 and 0.9 MPa. Differences in resistance to the stressor of Dagestan barley depending on plant development type and ear structure were insignificant. The resistance of spring barley at 0.9 MPa salinization in comparison with control was in average 48.0 %, that of winter ones – 47.6 %, the degree of resistance of distichous forms was 48.8 %, that of hexastichous ones – 47.2 %, for scarious and bare-grained forms it was 48.8 % and 47.4 % respectively.
