Summary. In this experiment we studied 126 heifers of Holstein breed from the аgricultural сooperative “Plemennoj Zavod Imeni Lenina” in Atninsk district of the Republic of Tatarstan. The studies were carried out in 2014-2015. The aim of this experiment was to study the polymorphism of prolactin gene of heifers and to identify the correlations between its genotypes and milk productivity. Blood samples were collected from studied heifers to isolate DNA. With the use of polymerase chain reaction and subsequent restriction of the fragments the polymorphism of prolactin gene and its effect on milk production of heifers was studied. These studies showed the following distribution of genotypes for the studied gene: there were 97 head (77%) of heifers with the AA genotype, 29 head (23%) from the combined group with (AB + BB) genotypes. There were 27 head (21%) with AB genotype and 2 heifers (2%) with BB genotype. It was reliably identified that heifers with AA genotype have the superiority in milk production per a standard lactation in relation to the combined group (AB + BB). It was 248 kg, or 4.1%. However, the mass fraction of protein in the milk of heifers with AA genotype was lower than in animals from the combined group, and the difference was 0.1%. There were no significant differences in the type of lactation in heifers with different genotypes. The coefficient of the lactation constancy for heifers with AA genotype was 98%, for the combined group (AB + BB)–92%. The coefficient of heritability on the milk yield is 0.4 for cows with (AB + BB) genotype, which indicates the high degree of heritability of productive qualities. The animals with AA genotype had lower heritability in this indicator, 0.2. Thus, in the studied population heifers with AA genotype had a higher milk yield, but lower protein content in milk.

Keywords: gene, genotype, prolactin, polymorphism, heifers, coefficient of heritability, milk yield, lactation curve.
