Summary. This article suggests the authors’ variant of tillage systematization, taking into account modern trends in the development of tillage tools. It is presented by four hierarchical levels, reflecting a complete set of currently available soil treatments. The lowest element in the hierarchy of tillage is technological operation, represented by 7 species. Different sets of technological operations form the technological methods (the second hierarchical level), the combination of which forms the method of tillage (the third hierarchical level). The combination of different methods of tillage in a crop rotation is a system of a higher hierarchical level, depending on the fractional saturation of different ways. It is presented an approach based on the optimization of the number of terms, connections of techniques and methods of soil treatment with the type of machine being used and the main indicator of its impact on the soil. For tillage practices and methods it is necessary to select separate systematic units: “type of a practice” and “variant of a method”, since the execution of practices and methods may be carried out by different types of tillage machines, which have different influence on the soil. There are presented tables of the dependence of tillage methods on technological operations and belonging of the main list of treatments to the proposed systematization, as well as its graphic representation. Application of the proposed approach in research and educational institutions of the agricultural sector of the Russian Federation will contribute to the unification and correct comparison of the results of current studies on tillage, carried out by different researchers of our country, and will improve the quality of the research conducted.
