Summary. The article presents the results of selection of parental forms and pairs for crossings in order to obtain high-yield hybrids. The source material was studied by the estimation of combining ability of potato hybrid combinations according to the productivity by the two-test topcross method. The crossings included pollination of four maternal forms (1-2001, 13-2001, 21-2001, 531) by two parent forms (Peterburgskii, Ulybka). The seedlings were grown in a greenhouse. One tuber from each plant was taken and planted next year in the field to estimate the productivity. One hundred plants from each hybrid combination were studied (25 plants in 4 replications). The experiments were conducted at the experimental plots of the Tatar Research Institute of Agriculture (Bol'shie Kabany, Laishev district, Tatarstan) in 2004-2007. The yield was estimated for the each plot and then a mean value was calculated. The statistical analysis of the experimental data was performed using one-factor analysis of variance. Then the general combining ability (GCA) of parental forms and specific combining ability (SCA) were calculated. The 1-2001 hybrid and the variety-tester Peterburgskii had the highest values of GCA (+0.15 and +0.05, respectively). Among studied samples the source forms 1-2001, 21-2001, 13-2001 had the highest values of SCA in the following crossings: 1-2001 x Peterburgskii (+0.06), 21-2001 x Ulybka (+0.03), 13-2001 x Ulybka (+0.02). The selected samples can be recommended for usage in breeding programs on potato as initial forms.
