Summary. The studies were carried out in order to identify possible changes of potato varietal characteristics in long-term in vitro cultivation of the collection of potato varieties to further provision of variety stability, the identity of lines/clones and purposeful use of collection plants in breeding and seed production. We compared the same variety in the tuberous material (without improvement), test-tube material and minitubers, derived from it. This comparison gives the reason to consider that collection plants, which passed the stage of prolonged storage under in vitro condition, demonstrates relatively high stability of signs, inherent in the initial plants in phenology, identity on tubers, morphology and productivity. This confirms the reliability of the storage technology of potato test-tube plants in vitro culture. It was registered insignificant intravariety variability in the material, grown from in vitro plants and from minitubers. The determinant factors for it are the aftereffect of improvement (increase in productivity for almost all varieties by 10-360 g/plant, or 16-35%), physiological state of plants (tube plants of the Agata variety died after transplantation into the ground due to the lack of root system), polymorphism or spontaneous mutation because of the long (15-25 years) in vitro cultivation (the Adretta variety changed the shape of tubers). The first two factors do not change the characteristics of the variety, and the material may be used in plant breeding and seed production. The changes in the tuber shape should be further studied and checked at the molecular and genetic level.
