Abstract. Volatile inhibitors of corrosion were proposed to use for the protection of electrical equipment of housing for livestock. The protective efficiency of IFKHAN-118 volatile inhibitor was studied by the gravimetrical corrosive tests and electrochemical polarization measurements. At 100 % relative air humidity the corrosion rate of carbon steel St3 with the following composition (% wt): C – 0.20, Mn – 0.51, Si – 0.15, P – 0.04, S – 0.05, Cr – 0.32, Ni – 0.21, Cu – 0.23, Fe – 98.29 reduced 17 times in the presence of this preparation. During the period from 340 to 680 hours the maximum protective effect is achieved, decreasing the intensity of corrosion destruction 100 times. This long period to achieve the maximum efficiency of the inhibitor is caused by the low pressure of its saturated vapor; it is about 0.133 Pa (10E-3 mm Hg) at 20 Celsius degrees, which do not affect the prospects of its practical use. The inhibitor in neutral chloride solutions inhibited anode ionization of steel, the rate of which limits the corrosion in general. For these reasons, the inhibitor is effective under conditions of livestock buildings. According to the polarization measurements and gravimetric tests, the inhibitor can be successfully used to protect electrical equipment of livestock buildings, under conditions of tropical and subtropical climate, sea air, when the saturation of surface phase film of moisture by chlorides of alkali metals is possible. The optimum concentration of the inhibitor in the moisture film on the metal surface is 150 mg/l..
