STUDY OF VARIABILITY AND INHERITANCE OF THE EAR LENGTH OF SOFT SPRING WHEAT IN TOPCROSSES UNDER CONDITIONS OF THE FOREST-STEPPE OF THE OB REGION

Summary. The results of a three-year study of variability and inheritance of the length of the main spike in eight varieties of soft spring wheat and 15 topcross hybrids under conditions of the forest-steppe of the Ob region is presented. The conditions of growing season and genotypic differences between plants had the most significant contribution to the variability of the sign (38.3 % and 36.6 % of the total phenotypic variation, respectively). Polyushko and K-31310 varieties were characterized as the parent forms with the shortest and the longest main ear, respectively. In dry 2012 there was a decrease in the length of the main spike, and in excessive moist 2013 – an increase in the sign relatively to the average value over three years. In parental forms the average value of the length of the main spike ranged from 70.5 to 122.8 mm; in F1 hybrids – from 75.3 to 115.4 mm, and in F2 hybrids – from 78.0 to 114.8 mm. The character of inheritance of the trait varied from depression to overdominance. It was observed the change of dominance in one direction or another at the same hybrids depending on the year of the study. Transgressive forms were identified in two F2 combinations from 15 ones in 2011 and 2013 (Altajskaya 530 x Tulajkovskaya 10 and Belle x Kantegirskaya 89). The coefficient of variation of the length of the main ear varied in the range of 6.6-13.9 %. This indicates an average and low variation of the trait in hybrids. Hybrids of the parental forms Altajskaya 530, Belle and Kantegirskaya 89 can be used as a breeding material for the selection on increase in the length of the main spike.
