Abstract. The article states the history of the foundation and development of Orenburg Research Agricultural Institute; the main directions of scientific researches and their results are presented. Already in the first years of the work of the experimental station, work was begun on the breeding of cereals, oilseeds and fodder crops, agrotechnics, agriculture, plant protection; the first variety of millet was developed. Today, the Institute carries out the experiments according to three federal programs, covering virtually all areas of agricultural production. To provide the scientific support to the region, the following programs were developed: “Grain”, “Soil fertility”, “Protein”, “Potato”, “Livestock breeding”, “Down” and others. The main research is aimed at the development of technologies that ensure the sustainability of agriculture to frequent droughts under conditions of global and local climate change.
