Abstract. It was studied the peculiarities of digestive process in the sheep (Ovis aries) of Romanov breed and in interspecies hybrids of Romanov ewes with argali (Ovis ammon) at hay-concentrate diet type with different content of neutral detergent fiber (NDF). The goal of the research was to develop feeding programs, considering physiological peculiarities of an organism. The experiment was carried out under conditions of the physiological yard of the L.K. Ernst All-Russian Research Institute of Animal Husbandry in 2016. We used the method of group-periods on four groups of sheep with fistulas of farding bags, formed by the principle of analogs according to the age and live weight. I-W group was formed from pure-bred Romanov wethers; I-E group – from pure-bred Romanov ewes; II-W group – F3 hybrid wethers carrying 87.5 % of Romanov blood and 12.5 % of argali blood; II-E group – F3 hybrid ewes carrying 87.5 % of Romanov blood and 12.5 % of argali blood. An increase in the content of NDF to 55.2 % in diet promoted a decrease in the consumption of dry matter (DM) in I-W, I-E, II-W and II-E groups by 18.0, 15.5, 7.9 and 7.3 %, respectively. With the increase in the content of NDF in groups of pure-bred Romanov sheep, digestibility of DM decreased by 4.3–5.0 %, of organic matter (OM) – by 3.2–4.2 %, of crude fiber (CF) – by 1.3–1.7 % (p is less than 0.05). The differences between the first and second periods of the research in hybrid animals were 1.5–2.0 % for DM, 1.4–1.9 % for OM, and 0.9–1.5 % for CF. The organism of purebred animals reacts more strongly to the deterioration of the quality of bulky feed (hay) by a significant decrease in feed intake and digestibility of nutrients.
