Abstract. In the work, we investigated the influence of age of cow-mothers on productive and reproductive qualities of animals of Black-and-White breed. The experiment was conducted in the period from 2010 to 2016 in Chelyabinsk region at the premises of plant breeding. The first group included animals from the first calving of cow-mothers (heifers – 111 head, full-grown cows – 103 head), the second group – from the second calving (107 and 96 head, respectively), the third group – from the third calving and older (382 and 374 head, respectively). Higher milk yield was typical for heifers from the group I – 4988 kg, which is significantly above the breed standard – 1488 kg (42.5%). The difference with the breed standard according to the milk production of full-grown cows in the third lactation varied from 37.9 to 44.1 % at the superiority of animals from the group I. The shortest duration of the service period and the period between calvings (108 and 404 days, respectively) was characteristic for the animals, obtained from cow-mothers of the group I, while they had the greatest period of pregnancy. With the longest service period (133 days) full-age cows from the group III did not demonstrate high productivity. It was below by 260 kg than in animals from the group I and by 31 kg than in animals from the group II (the service period was 113 days). The age of mothers positively correlated with milk production (0.30–0.52) and duration of the service period (0.24–0.44) in all groups. The share of the influence of maternal age on milk yield for 305 days of lactation was 8.6–16.5%; on the service period – 10.6–21.0%. It is necessary to consider the age of mothers in the formation of highly productive herds of dairy cattle.
Keywords: age of mothers; milk production; reproductive quality; service period; correlation.
