Abstract. The article presents the importance, trends, the main results and prospects of breeding work with white, narrow-leaved and yellow lupine in All-Russian Lupine Research Institute. Economic and biological description of new adapted varieties is given. White lupine varieties ‘Dega’, ‘Aly Parus’, ‘Michurinsky’ and narrow-leaved lupine ‘Vityaz’ are competitive with other legume crops. They took the first place in grain and protein yield compared to the best soybean and pea varieties in the ecological test in Shatilov Agricultural Experimental Station (Orel region) in 2015–2017. The correlation analysis of the elements of seed productivity in different white lupine varieties showed a reliably high correlation between the mass of seeds from the plant and the mass of the beans and the biomass of the plant (r = 0.95–0.98); the average correlation between the weight of the seeds from the plant and the harvest index (r = 0.44–0.57). In this connection, the condition for further yield increase in new white lupine varieties is an increase in the total biomass of the plant while maintaining the harvest index at the level of 45–50%. During the last years, the forms of this species were developed, which exceed the standard ‘Dega’ in biological weight productivity and potential yield 1.5–2.0 times. Narrow-leaved lupine is the earliest species among the cultivated ones. Its breeding is aimed to develop varieties for forage and green manure. The forage variety ‘Vityaz’ has been listed in the State Register since 2012; the green manure variety ‘Siderat 46’ was included in the State Register in 2015. Yellow lupine is a crop for sabulous and sandy soils. Since 2017, the State Register included a forage variety of yellow lupine of universal use ‘Bulat’.
