Abstract. The aim of this work was to correlate the results of molecular studies of Phytophthora infestans isolates with their characteristics, obtained by traditional phytopathological methods. The isolates were selected from potato leaves from the field collection of the N. I. Vavilov All-Russian Institute of Plant Genetic Resources in 2013–2015. The virulence of the P. infestans lines was determined on the leaf fractions using a set of differentiation plants from the International Potato Center (CIP, Lima, Peru) recognizing 22 pathotypes of P. infestans. The aggressiveness of the lines was determined in a potato tuber test, the resistance to metalaxyl – on potato tubers of the variety of Sante. Isolates and monozoosporous lines, isolated from isolates, harvested in 2015, were grouped on the basis of profiles of virulence factors (the sum of genes detected with the help of differentiation plants). In isolates in 2013 and monozoosporous lines in 2015 pathotypes with a virulence factor from 7 to 11 dominated, which had a virulence gene of 8; and in isolates in 2014 pathotypes with a virulence factor from 6 to 9 prevailed, which lacked a virulence gene 8. The mating type indicators, recorded in phenotypic analysis and with the help of the CAPS marker W16, coincided in 90% of cases. The molecular method for determining this index is reliable and allows obtaining results much faster than the traditional phytopathological method. The allelic composition of the avirulence genes (Avr genes), identified by the cloning and sequencing method, did not correspond much to the profile of virulence factors. Virulence indicators were not associated with resistance to metalaxyl and aggressiveness in the potato tuber test. Aggressiveness, as an indicator of the real harmfulness of P. infestans, did not correspond to the potential harm (profiles of virulence factors and Avr genes).
Keywords: Phytophthora infestans; potato late blight; mating types; aggressiveness; Rpi genes of resistance to P. infestans; virulence factors; Avr genes of avirulence.
