Abstract. The investigations were carried out to determine the optimal seeding rate for obtaining high yields and ensuring accelerated reproduction of the seeds of winter rye ‘Krasnoyarskaya Universalnaya’. The work was carried out in 2015–2017 under conditions of the central part of the Krasnoyarsk forest-steppe. The soil was leached chernozem. It was studied the seeding rates of 3, 4, 5, 6 million germinating seeds per hectare. The standard rate was 6 million germinating seeds per hectare. The standard was variety Yeniseika. There were no differences in winter hardiness and the number of weeds within the studied seeding rates. Yeniseika variety, on average for three years of the research, produced the highest yield at the seeding rates of 5 and 6 million seeds/ha (3.92 and 3.94 t/ha, respectively). The reduction of the seeding rate to 4 million seeds/ha caused a decrease in the yield by 4%, to 3 million seeds/ha – by 13%. Krasnoyarskaya Universalnaya developed better in sparser crops; the highest yield was obtained at the seeding rate of 5 and 4 million seeds/ha (4.18 and 4.08 t/ha, respectively). At the seeding rate of 6 million seeds/ha, the yield was at the level of that at the seeding rate of 4–5 million seeds/ha or below it. In the variant with the seeding rate of 3 million seeds/ha, the grain harvest of Krasnoyarskaya Universalnaya variety decreased by 7.5%. The weight of 1000 grains of Yeniseika variety did not depend on the seeding rate. Krasnoyarskaya Universalnaya variety responded to the reduction of the seeding rate from 6 to 3 million seeds/ha by an increase in the weight of 1000 grains by 2.1 g. The multiplication factor of seeds reached the maximum value at the seeding rate of 3 million seeds/ha, and it was 46.6 for Yeniseika variety and 48.2 for Krasnoyarskaya Universalnaya variety. To obtain high yield, Krasnoyarskaya Universalnaya variety should be sown with the rate of 4–5 million seeds/ha. When sowing for seed purposes, it is advisable to use the seeding rate of 3 million seeds/ha.
