Abstract. The paper presents an assessment of the actual level of soil fertility in the tilled area of the Murmansk region. An agrochemical survey, the dynamics of changes of averagely weighted indexes of acidity, the content of labile phosphorus and potassium in soil from 1965 to 2015 were determined. The main soil cover of the region was represented by illuvial humic podzols, bog podzols and peat-bog soils. In 2015 in the survey area the averagely weighted content of organic matter was 7.3 %, mobile phosphorus – 954 mg/kg soil (an increase from 1999 was 607 mg/kg soil), labile potassium –155 mg/kg soil (below the 1990 year on 193 mg/kg soil). The share of the tilled area with P2O5 high and very high content was 96.9 % or 8.06 thousand hectares. A low content of labile potassium was typical for 60.7 % of soils or 5.05 thousand hectares. The average acidity (pH) of a tilled area was 5.0 as of 01.01.2016. The increase of this index was 0.4 units pH compared to 1999. The share of acidic soils in the monitoring region was 64.7 % or 5.28 thousand hectares. The high content of boron was typical for 7.59 thousand hectares or 91.2 %, copper – 7.30 thousand hectares or 87.6 %, zinc – 5.20 thousand hectares or 62.4 %. The share of soils with low manganese supply was 74.9 % or 6.24 thousand hectares, cobalt – 67.3 % or 5.61 thousand hectares. In 2015 the mineral fertilization was 52 kg of active substances per hectare, including K2O – 1 kg of active substances per hectare. 178 kg of active substances per hectare or 3.4 times more were applied in 1999, including potassium 27 kg of active substances per hectare. In 1993 the organic fertilizer rate was 20 t/ha, which had been 8.2 t/ha less than in 2011–2015. At the beginning of 2016 the balance of nutrients in the soils of the tilled area was positive for nitrogen (26 kg of active substances per hectare) and phosphorus (47 kg of active substances per hectare), but negative for potassium (-34 kg of active substances per hectare).
