Abstract. The work was carried out under conditions of the Ob’ forest-steppe of Altai Krai in 2010–2017 in order to determine the variation level of germinating ability of spring durum wheat and its influence on crop density and productivity depending on environmental conditions and genotype. The authors studied the laboratory and field germination ability, capacity for survival of plants before the harvesting, density of plants and productive stems, and productivity of 11 varieties of spring durum wheat, differing in the time of development: Khar’kovskaya 46, Altaika, Altaiskaya Niva, Altaiskii Yantar’, Aleiskaya, Salyut Altaya, Pamyati Yanchenko, Solnechnaya 573, Oazis, Omskii Korund, Zhemchuzhina Sibiri. Factors “Year” and “Genotype” and their interaction had a significant effect on germination rate, density, and productivity. Factor “Year” had the maximum effect, which varied from 77.0 to 96.0% depending on the trait; the contribution of factor “Genotype” was 3.0–4.0% and of their interaction – 0.5–9.0%. Laboratory seed germination capacity varied from 86 to 96% over the years, whereas field germination rate changes from 59 to 96%. The average values of these two parameters were 91 and 77%, correspondingly. After a fallow field the culture formed 385 plants/m2: 296–482 plants/m2 depending on the year and 352–414 plants/m2depending on the variety. Plant capacity for survival before harvesting was 77% with the variation of 47–91% over the years, and of 71–82% over the cultivars. The average number of plants before harvesting was 305 plants/m2. The pair coefficients of correlation were the following: laboratory germination capacity and the number of plants germinated – 0.57; the number of plants germinated and the number of plants survived before harvesting – 0.48; the number of plants before harvesting and the number of productive stems – 0.76; the number of productive stems and the productivity – 0.87. Correlations of these characteristics for separate genotypes differed from intragroup values due to morphogenesis peculiarities.
Keywords: spring durum wheat; variety; laboratory and field germination capacity; plants capacity for survival; yield; correlation.
