Abstract. Postnatal diseases of cows cause great economic damage on the intensification of livestock farming and profitability ones. The aim of the study was to detect the postnatal diseases of highly productive imported cows and animals of local breed on livestock farms in the Mountain Zone of Azerbaijan Shirvan Region. It was revealed 18 % or 366 cows of patients with post-partum diseases from 2035 examined ones. 155 cows were ill with hysteritis, 117 ones – with garget, 67 animals – with retention of afterbirth, and 27 cows – with birth palsy. The prevalence rate of these diseases on farms was 4.7...20.0; 3.3...14.0; 1.2...8.5 and 0.4...5.0 % respectively. As a result of the conducted studies of 814 cows of the Holstein-Friesian breed, the Black-and-White breed, the Simmental breed and local breed of Shirvan Region, it was established that the highly productive imported cows were more liable to these diseases. The prevalence rate of hysteritis in the Holstein-Friesian breed was 18.0…20.0 %, garget – 13.5…14.0 %, retention of afterbirth – 8.0…8.5 %, birth palsy – 2.0…5.0 %. The prevalence rate of these diseases in the Black-and-White breed was 6.0…16.9; 4.9…13.2; 2.9…8.0; 1.0…4.0 % respectively. The values of these indices in the Simmental breed were 5.1…13.0, 3.9…12.0, 1.7…7.5, 0.8…3.8 % respectively. The local livestock was the least liable to postnatal diseases. These diseases were observed in a small number of animals: 4.7…5.0 % cows were ill with hysteritis, 3.3…3.7 % animals – with garget, 1.2…1.6 % animals – with retention of afterbirth, 0.4…0.7 % cows – with birth palsy. As a result of the conducted studies, it was established that highly productive Holstein-Frisian breed was significantly liable to postnatal diseases (an average of 11.1 % of the examined animals), while animals of the local breed were more resistant to these diseases (an average of 2.8 %).
