Abstract. The aim of the study was to determine the efficiency of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers against the backgrounds of pair combinations of nutrients: nitrogen – against the background of phosphorus and potassium, phosphorus – against the background of nitrogen and potassium, potassium – against the background of nitrogen and phosphorus. Every element was examined in four doses. The field test was carried out on leached heavy loamy chernozem in OOO “Rasskazovskoe”, Rasskazovsky district, Tambov region, in 2015–2017. The authors tested spring barley ‘Sunshine’, zoned in Tambov region in 2011. During the years of the research, the average yield of the variety was 2.29 t/ha in the variant without fertilizers. With an improvement in the conditions of mineral nutrition, it increased by 4.11–5.20 t/ha against the background of P60K60 under the influence of increasing doses of nitrogen fertilizers; by 4.82–4.87 t/ha against the background of N60K60 under the influence of phosphate fertilizers; by 4.34–5.34 t/ha against the background of N60P60 under the influence of increasing doses of potassium fertilizers. The payback from the use of mineral fertilizers was in the range from 10.8 to 16.9 kg of grain per 1 kg of active substance of NPK. Nitrogen fertilizers increased protein content in grain from 10.63 to 12.41%. The starch content did not change much. The use of mineral fertilizers contributed to an increase in the mass of 1000 grains from 45.7 to 49.7 g and in the grain-unit – from 659 to 679 g/L. Over three years, the average removal of nutrients by spring barley ‘Sunshine’ was 20 kg/t for nitrogen, 11.8 kg/t for phosphorus and 18.5 kg/t for potassium.
