Abstract. To improve dairy cattle the outstanding genetic potential of Holstein breed is used. To date, there is no consensus about the optimal proportion of blood of the improving breed. The aim of this work was to analyze the breeding work with Black-and-White cattle and to determine the optimal proportion of blood for the improving Holstein breed. The authors used summary score data of dairy productivity of cows in Sverdlovsk region for 2013–2017, as well as the results of the production activity of the Novopishminskoye breeding plant, according to the IAS “Selax. Dairy cattle”. For 2013–2017 milk productivity of cows in the region increased from 5876 to 7144 kg. The mass fraction of protein in milk also increased and averaged 3.15% (in 2013 it was 3.04%). The fat content in the milk was almost on the same level with insignificant fluctuations and in 2017 it was 3.89%. In 2017 in animals with a blood content of 50% the average milk yield in the region was 5591 kg, of 75% – 6809 kg, of 87.5% – 7921 kg, in the control it was 5353 kg. At the breeding plant the values were 8691, 10020, 9805, 10416 kg, respectively. In the region the fat content of milk was 3.87, 3.87, 3.90, 3.89, depending on the proportion of blood, respectively, in purebred animals it was 3.76%. The protein content was 3.11, 3.17, 3.19, 3.20%, respectively, in purebred animals it was 3.06%. In the breeding farm, the fat content was 3.70, 3.71, 3.68, 3.72%, protein content – 3.17, 3.24, 3.22, 3.22%, depending on the blood portion.

Keywords: Black-and-White breed with the portion of Holstein blood; blood portion; milk productivity; valuation; hybrids.
