CHEMICAL AMELIORATION UNDER CONDITIONS OF NONMOLDBOARD TILLAGE SYSTEM

Abstract. Under conditions of the nonmoldboard tillage system, the efficiency of dolomite powder, embedded before cultivation (surface liming method) in the doses, calculated according to 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 values of hydrolytic acidity (h.a.) of the soil, was determined. The full (1.0 h.a.) rate of dolomite powder was 4.8 t/ha. For comparison the ameliorant in the dose of 1.0 h.a. was embedded before ploughing (a traditional way of liming). The effectiveness of the surface and traditional liming methods was evaluated by comparing each method with its control without liming: background 1 and background 2, respectively. The doses of applied fertilizers for backgrounds 1 and 2 were the same. The maximum (1.4 units) pH shift was noted in the case of surface liming in the dose of 1.5 h.a.; and under the influence of 0.5 h.a. and 1.0 h.a. it was 0.7 and 1.1 units, respectively. The reaction of the soil solution shifted from subacid to close to neutral and neutral: the acidity of the upper (0–10 cm) part of the arable layer decreased to 5.6–6.4 units, and of the bottom one (10–20 cm) – up to 5.7–6.1 units. Traditional liming similarly reduced the acidity of the arable layer: upper part – to 5.8 units, and the lower one – to 6.2 units. The average harvest over nine years of the research was higher by 6% in the case of surface liming with dolomite powder in the dose of 1.0 h.a. The increase in grain yield was 21%. The payback of 1 ton of dolomite powder by the yield increased by 30 kg compared to the traditional method (80 kg of grain units).
