Abstract. A collection of nut-bearing cultures (species of families Juglandaceae A. Rich. Ex Kunth. and Fagaceae Dumort.) was formed in the laboratory of the natural flora of N.V. Tsitsin Main Botanic Garden. A long-term experiment showed that Juglans regia L., Juglans nigra L., Juglans cordiformis Maxim., Juglans ailanthifolia Carr., Carya ovata (Mill.) K. Koch., Carya cordiformis (Wangenh.) K. Koch and Сastanea dentata Borkh. underwent a full cycle of seasonal development, regularly bore nuts, gave germinating seeds under experimental conditions. They were also rather winter resistant. All of this indicated their successful adaptation. Carya laciniosa (Michx. F.) Loud. and Carya illinoinoensis (Wangenh.) K. Koch. do not form full fruits, but they have a high adaptive potential. As a result of the selection, forms of Juglans regia L. were identified with the high quality of nuts. For the listed species, peculiarities of yield formation are described, an assessment of the economically valuable traits of nuts is given. The quantitative characteristics of trees in the collection are indicated: age, trunk diameter, height, distribution by growth form (monocormic, multi-stemmed). It is advisable to introduce Сastanea dentata Borkh. into a wide culture in Central Russia as a species catastrophically disappearing in nature. According to the complex of biological and economic characteristics, all studied species are recommended for the involvement in breeding or use in urban gardening.
