Abstract. Variability and morphological traits of the introduced forms of Siberian filbert Corulys heterophylla Fisch. ex Trautv. were studied for the use under conditions of the forest-steppe of the Ob region. The Corulys heterophylla Fisch. ex Trautv plants, transferred from Abakan in 1983 and set in the arboretum of the Siberian Research Institute of Plant Growing and Breeding, were used as the objects of the study. The studied plants were in the generative stage of development. Average heights of stems in the plants studied varied from 1.5 to 3.1 m with the diameters at the height of 1.3 m within 0.9–1.9 cm; the diameters of stems at the root collar varied from 1.1 to 1.9 cm. The crown extension was 3.8–4.0 m. The length of the leaf blade varied from 5.8 to 12.1 cm, the width was in the range from 4.2 to 9.9 cm, the length of the petiole was from 1.3 to 2.9 cm. Smaller petioles corresponded to leaves of small sizes. The fruit (nuts) of the plants studied were round with convex base, oblate round, oval, oblong oval, with uneven sides. Nut colour varied from light brown to brown and ash-grey. Individual samples had the length of fruit from 1.4 to 1.9 cm, the diameter from 1.2 to 1.7 cm, and especially thick (up to 0.4 cm) shell. All other bushes formed nuts with an average fruit length of 1.0–1.3 cm, diameter of 1.1–1.3 cm and shell thickness from 0.1 to 0.2 cm. In general, the plants of Corulys heterophylla, introduced into the forest-steppe conditions of Western Siberia, were similar in morphological features to the representatives of this species, which are formed under conditions of the natural area.

Keywords: Corulys heterophylla; height; crown extension; leaf blade; fruit; nut; nut shape; colour; nut length; diameter; nutshell thickness.
