Abstract. In the world analytical practice, the method of atomic emission spectrometry with inductively coupled plasma, which has several advantages, replaces the method of atomic absorption spectroscopy in the field of determining the content of heavy metals and trace elements in environmental objects and components of agrocenoses. Several years ago, the research group of the All-Russian Research Institute of Agrochemistry began to examine this method in combination with microwave mineralization as sample preparation for determining the content of trace elements and heavy metals in plants and crop products. Subsequently, in 2018, the work in this direction became the basis for developing a method for determining the content of trace elements and heavy metals in plants and crop products using atomic emission spectrometry with inductively coupled plasma. To test the procedure, we compared the content of cadmium, lead, zinc and copper in the samples of plant material, determined by the developed method, with the available data on the content of the elements in these samples, obtained by the atomic absorption method after preparing the sample with wet ashing. Experimental data showed the absence of significant differences between the mean values obtained by the compared methods and confirmed the superiority of both absolute and relative values of the reproducibility of the results obtained by the proposed approach before the standard method. Successful approbation allows us to recommend the developed integrated approach for the use in analytical laboratory practice on the territory of the Russian Federation, including control of plant products used in animal husbandry to produce organic products.
