Mobile Unit for Milking Cows and Its Pneumatic Cylinder for Removing the Milking Machine

Abstract. The development of a more advanced design of a milking unit, which has the ability to timely remove the milking machine from the udder, eliminates the subjective assessment of the milk flow rate, trusting it to the machine, and the need for the operator to be present at the completion of milking the cow. The developed mobile unit contains a vertically installed pneumatic cylinder for removing the milking machine. The piston stroke of the pneumatic cylinder depends on the distance between the milking unit and the cow udder. When the distance from the platform of the unit to the piston at its lowest position is 0.10 m, the deviation in height of the latch relative to the piston at its upper position is 0.10 m, the deviation in height of the position of the attachment point of the cable to the milking machine relative to the platform of the milking unit carriage is 0.10 m, the cable elongation factor is 1.20. The required piston stroke of the pneumatic cylinder is 0.70 m with the distance between the cable attachment point to the milking machine and the latch position in the horizontal plane of 1.00 m, and with an increase in the distance up to 1.50 m it reaches 1.04 m. The tension of the cable varies during the process of moving of the milking machine. Moreover, at its initial moment, the greater the distance between the milking machine and the unit is, the lower the tension of the cable Ft is. When using a milking machine with a mass of 4 kg and a distance of 1.5 m, the tension is 25.37 N, with a zero distance it is 40.00 N. With the passage during the movement of the lower position of the trajectory, an increase in the tension of the cable is registered with increasing distance of the milking machine at the initial moment. It increases from 40.00 to 54.63 N. For a controlled removal of the milking machine with the weight of 4 kg from the udder distant at 1.5 m, with the warning of its contact with the floor at the lower point of the movement path, with an increase in the vacuum pressure from 20.0 to 50.0 kPa, the diameter of the pneumatic cylinder can be reduced from 0.084 to 0.060 m.
