Abstract. A verbal-graphic algorithm of formation of ecologically balanced agro-landscapes in the Central Chernozem Area was proposed on the basis of the improved methodology and database structure, using a step-by-step method of development. The conditions of their formation are an ecological balance, general and production sustainability of an agro-landscape, reproduction of soil processes, high or medium soil quality, low degree or absence of soil degradation, high or medium productivity and production sustainability of an agro-landscape, absence of intolerable anthropogenic loads. The proposed algorithm included three modules, each solving an independent subtask, and was presented as a flowchart. Module 1 enabled to correct the ratio of environment stabilizing and destabilizing agricultural lands in the agro-landscape based on the estimation of its erosion and general resistance and determination of land areas for the implementation of meadow and forest amelioration, removal of eroded soils from arable lands to form an ecological framework. Module 2 enabled to estimate soil resource potential, productivity and agro-landscape production sustainability, normalize anthropogenic load on arable land and to reveal on this basis plots and fields with soils subject to degradation, with a low level of reproduction of soil processes and quality, productivity and production sustainability, with intolerable and conditionally tolerable anthropogenic load in order to make appropriate decisions on rational land use for preventing soil resource degradation and raising land productivity. Module 3 enabled to make decisions on correcting anthropogenic load and basic elements of a farming system for ensuring an ecologically balanced agro-landscape on the basis of predicting the influence of the developed basic elements of a farming system on soil organic matter transformation, normalizing anthropogenic load in the agro-landscape. The application of the proposed algorithm will provide the formation of an ecological agro-landscape framework, its ecological balance, and stability, normalizing anthropogenic load, rational use of soil resources and an increase of land productivity when designing adaptive landscape farming systems.
