Abstract. The purpose of the research was to develop a methodology for the inclusion of idle land, which was previously involved in agricultural production, in agricultural use. To achieve this purpose, 5 unused land plots with common borders within the Kemerovo cadastral district were selected. As a result of the research, a strategy, consisting of 4 interrelated stages, was developed. The first stage includes the collection, processing, and analysis of documentation relating to the land plot; checking the completeness of the characteristics of the land. The second stage includes the inspection and fixation of the plot, analysis of the plot location, sampling, geobotanical survey. The third stage includes determination of fertility indicators of the plot on the basis of analysis of selected samples, the compilation of an agrochemical characteristic, including the content of main nutrients in the soils of the surveyed plot. The fourth stage is the determination of the possibility of the use of the land for agricultural purposes on the basis of the survey; the allocation of land suitable for agricultural exploitation. At this stage, it is created a map of the possible land distribution in agricultural activity, taking into account the previously determined natural fertility and the assessment of the geobotanical survey data. As a result of the methodology testing in the 5 selected areas, it was established that all land plots are assigned to the second stage of weediness, which lasts from 5 to 10 years from the end of land processing. Without engaging these plots in agricultural use, in some years they will perform the third and then the fourth stages of weediness when the agricultural exploitation of the areas is quite challenging. According to the results of the geobotanical survey of the land plots and physicochemical analyzes of soil samples, all land plots are classified as Class B, category 5, that is, land suitable for limited agricultural use. The most rational way of involving these lands in agricultural use is exploitation as pasture and haymaking areas.

Keywords: idle land; land plot; agricultural use; geobotanical survey; agrotechnical analysis; soil; natural fertility.
