Assortment and Production Technology of High-Quality Strawberry

Abstract. The development of a technological system for strawberry fruit production and improvement of assortment that met the modern requirements of the consumer market were carried out on test plots of I.V. Michurin Federal Scientific Center in 2008–2018. Biological objects of the research were 30 strawberry cultivars (Fragaria x ananassa Duch.) of domestic and foreign breeding. The investigation was performed using standard guidelines for cultivar testing and agrotechnical experiments. It was used ridges with a height of 10–15 cm, a width of 80 cm, and row spacing was 90 cm. The space between two lines was 30–40 cm, and the space between plants in a row was 30 cm. The soil of the test plot was leached heavy loamy medium acid chernozem. Under condition of introduction, strawberry cultivars Honeoye, Vima Kimberly, NF311 (Alba), NF205 (Roxana), Vima Xima, Vima Tarda, Florence realized high potential of adaptability, productivity (up to 25 t/ha), formation of large fruits (12.2–19.7 g), marketable quality of fruit (64.3–89.2%) and formed the basis for a competitive assortment. It was optimized technological elements and their parameters (planting density, the colour of plastic mulch, planting dates, type of seedlings, nutrition system, irrigation, etc.), which ensure profitability of production at the level of 141–190%. When forming the assortment for fresh consumption with a therapeutic and dietary orientation, promising strawberry cultivars with a high level of accumulation of biologically active substances were identified. Cultivars Privlekatelnaya and Pamyati Zybova accumulate ascorbic acid at the level of more than 80.0 mg/100g. Cultivars Pamyati Zybova, Privlekatelnaya, and Feyerverk accumulate anthocyanins at the level of 80 mg/100 g and more. Cultivars Privlekatelnaya and Pamyati Zybova have the highest antioxidant activity of fruit (60.7–62.5 mg/100g). These varieties meet all modern requirements for fruit and berry production as functional foods.
