Abstract. The studies were carried out in 2003–2006 in the Cis-Kama zone of the Republic of Tatarstan. The purpose of the research was to study the effectiveness of primary tillage systems of grey forest soil, as well as the use of straw and postharvest green manure in the link winter rye – spring wheat – annual grasses of a grain-fallow-grass rotation. The experiment’s design included the study of nutrient systems (factor A) – NPK (in the doses to achieve the yield of winter rye of 4 t/ha, the yield of spring wheat of 3 t/ha, the yield of annual grasses of 12 t/ha), NPK + postharvest green manure, NPK + postharvest green manure + straw; and the system of the primary tillage of grey forest soil (factor B) – moldboard, boardless, combined. The combination of the primary tillage with the application of mineral fertilizers, forecrop’s straw and postharvest green manure provided a significant increase in the reserves of productive moisture in the soil and its effective spending on the formation of the crop. The combination of the primary tillage system with the application of mineral fertilizers, forecrop’s straw and postharvest green manure provided a higher content of mobile forms of the main nutrients, their sustainable use for plant growth, as well as the maximal yield of the crops under study: winter rye – 3.61 t/ha, spring wheat – 3.94 t/ha, annual grasses – 14.9 t/ha. These indicators were higher than in the cases of moldboard ploughing and application of mineral fertilizers only by 0.82, 1.07 and 3.30 t/ha, respectively. At the same time, in the cultivation of spring wheat, a significant improvement in the quality of the formed grain by vitreousity (from 60 to 66%), grain-unit (from 745 to 756 g/L) and gluten content (from 27.5 to 31.2%) was established.

Keywords: primary tillage; productive moisture; nutrients; yield; yield quality.
