Abstract. The studies were aimed at creating new promising lines and varieties of winter triticale, combining potentially high productivity and grain quality. The work was carried out under the conditions of the Ural steppe in 2017–2018. The research material was 5 breeding lines and the winter triticale variety Bashkirskaya 3. The standard was Bashkirskaya Korotkostebel’naya variety. The accounting area of the plot was 50 m2. The experiment was repeated 6 times with randomized allocation of plots. The soil cover of the field was represented by light loamy typical carbonate chernozems of medium thickness. The highest yields (on average over two years) were formed by the promising lines AD 63938 (5.12 t/ha) and AD 56101 (5.22 t/ha), exceeding the standard by 0.57 t/ha and 0.67 t/ha, respectively. According to the number of productive stems we selected AD 59320 sample (502 pcs/m2). The number of productive stems in the other samples was the same as in the standard variety Bashkirskaya Korotkostebel’naya. The number of grains per ear varied from 33.5 to 44.5 pcs (AD63938 line). AD 63938, AD 56101, and AD 59320 lines exceeded the standard in the mass of 1000 grains by 3.2 g, 4.7 g, and 5.8 g, respectively. The protein content in the lines AD 63938 and AD 59320 was slightly higher (13.8% and 13.5% respectively), than in the standard (13.3%). The grain unit of promising samples was at the level of the standard variety (691 g/L) or slightly below it. Only in the line AD 63938, the value of this index was 26 g/L (717 g/L) higher. AD 63938 line combined some features valuable for breeding that opens up opportunities for its use in the further breeding of winter triticale as a complex source.
