Abstract. The study aimed to assess the economic and biological characteristics and properties of Bazis common winter wheat variety under varying environmental conditions. The work was performed in the Samara region in 2013–2019. Characteristics’ stability was determined by D. Levis; adaptive yield potential was determined by A. A. Rosielle and J. Hambin. Over the years of the study, the minimum temperature at the depth of tillering nodes in the winter period was minus 18 С. Bazis variety was bred by hybridization of remote ecological and geographical F3 forms (Svetoch x Bezostaya 1*3 x Agent) x Vista, k-63323 (USA). The average yield for 2013–2019 amounted to 4.69 t/ha, which was 0.68 t/ha higher than for Biryuza standard. The maximum realized yield was 7.78 t/ha. The variety is frost and winter resistant. In terms of frost resistance, it exceeds the standard by 24%; in terms of resistance to damping-out, it exceeds the standard by 37%. Under complex abiotic stress (low temperature in winter, drought), the yield of Bazis variety exceeded the value of this indicator for the standard by 0.35 t/ha; for Bezenchukskaya 380 variety – by 0.59 t/ha; for Svetoch variety – by 0.37 t/ha. On average for 2013–2019, the mass fraction of protein in grain was 14.5%; the mass fraction of crude gluten was 32.0%; the falling number was 223 s; valorimetric estimate was 70 units; bread volume was 885 mL; bread rating was 4.3 points. The natural grain mass was 760 g/L; the number of grains per ear was 41.0 pcs. The weight of grain per ear was 1.87 g; the weight of 1000 grains was 40.3 g. The height of the plants was 98.3 cm. The variety is middle-early, medium susceptible to brown rust, pyrenophorosis, poorly susceptible to powdery mildew.

Keywords: common winter wheat; variety; yield; adaptability; grain quality; fungal diseases.
