Abstract. Comparative evaluation of winter triticale varieties of various ecological and geographical origins was conducted in the steppe zone of the Middle Volga region in 2016–2019. We assessed the levels of phenotypic plasticity, stability, and environmental sustainability to select source material for breeding varieties suitable for cultivation гтвук the arid conditions of the region. The integral evaluation was conducted according to the following indicators: regression coefficient (bi), deviation from the regression line (S2di), variance (LSD), confidence interval (LSDj), mathematical expectation of the corresponding variances (chi2), variation coefficient (V), correlation coefficient (r), squared error of the correlation coefficient (Sr), homeostaticity (Hom), stability index (IS), stress resistance (Ymin - Ymax), genetic flexibility ((Ymax + Ymin) / 2). A combination of high average yield x(a), plasticity of approximate 1 and stability S2di close to 0 was noted in Arktur variety (x(a) = 5.13 t/ha + bi = 1.02 + S2di = 0.18) and 07-156 t1-5 line (x(a) = 5.08 t/ha + bi = 1.00 + S2di = 0.12). In terms of the totality of characteristics, Krokha, Spika, Arktur, and Kapella varieties and 07-156 t1-5 line had the highest developmental potency under various environmental conditions (IS = 110.1–123.5; bi = 0.90–1.02; S2di = 0.12–1.23; V = 42.6–44.9%; Hom = 1.60–1.84). Svat and Sergy varieties and 08-194t49 line were productive in favourable years, but they are not adaptable to dry conditions (IS = 106.2–108.1; bi = 1.09–1.10; S2di = 0.99–1.76; V = 47.7–50.4%; Hom = 1.11–1.40; Ymin – Ymax = -63.7–-67.7). Kapriz, Konsul, Tornado, Soyuz, Tal’va 100, Doktrina 110 varieties and 09-44t25 line were the most unstable and lowly adaptable to the conditions of the Middle Volga Region (IS = 58.2–109.7; bi = 0.75–1.07; S2di = 0.21–2.94; V = 45.4–58.9%; Hom = 1.00–1.54).
