Abstract. The use of disinfectants plays an important role in the prevention of infectious diseases among farm animals and poultry. Disinfectants ensure the elimination of pathogenic and potentially pathogenic microorganisms from the environment. In this research, we aimed to determine the efficacy of the bactericidal action of Pentalcid domestic disinfectant, which contains quaternary ammonium salts, glutaraldehyde, corrosion inhibitors and nonionic surfactants. We studied the antibacterial and fungicidal activity of Pentalcid to test cultures of bacteria and microscopic fungi in the active substance concentrations of 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1.0 and 20%. The biocidal activity of the disinfectant Pentalcid was determined by the method of serial dilutions. As test strains, 24-hour agar cultures of spore-forming aerobes Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus cereus; non-spore-forming Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli; and the microscopic fungus Candida albicans were used at a concentration of 10E6 CFU per 1 mL and an exposure of 30 and 60 min. It was determined that Pentalcid exhibits bactericidal activity against non-spore forming bacteria K. pneumoniae, S. aureus, P. aeruginosa and E. coli, as well as the microscopic fungus C. albicans, at the concentration of 0.25% or higher with the exposure of 30 min. The bactericidal activity of Pentalcid against spore-forming aerobic species B. subtilis and B. cereus was noted at the concentration of 20% with the exposure of 30 and 60 min. At the concentrations from 0.25% to 1%, the studied preparation shows a bacteriostatic effect against aerobic spore-forming bacilliform bacteria.
